Limestone quarry eliminated daily hopper bridging by lining the cone section with 15mm UHMWPE.
A limestone quarry was experiencing daily bridging in the feed hopper above their primary crusher. Wet morning material would form a bridge across the discharge throat and require 30-45 minutes of poking, vibrating, or even crane assistance to break free. Net effect: ~6% of crusher availability lost.
We lined the conical section of the hopper (the bottom 4 m above the discharge) with 15 mm UHMWPE PE1000 cut into 12 trapezoidal panels. Each panel was through-bolted with M12 countersunk stainless hardware on 200 mm centers.
Bridging eliminated. The crusher now runs first-pour every morning without manual intervention. ROI on the UHMWPE installation calculated at 4 months based on recovered crusher availability.
