Power plant coal bunker arching events dropped from weekly to zero after 20mm UHMWPE retrofit.
An Asian thermal power plant was suffering weekly arching events in the coal bunkers feeding pulverizers. When an arch formed, operators had to use vibrators and (occasionally) air cannons to restore flow. Repeated cannon firing damaged bunker steel.
Arching events: zero in the first 18 months post-installation. Air cannons removed from the bunker (no longer needed). Vibrator energy use down ~80 %. Bonus: noise from coal flowing reduced by ~12 dB at the bunker base โ improvement noted by control-room operators.
