Made-to-Drawing UHMWPE Mining Liners: Curved Chutes, Bolt Patterns, Wear Bars

An iron ore transfer chute is not a flat box — it has 3D-curved walls, weld seams, structural ribs, and previous repair scars. "Just send 1000×2000 mm sheets and we'll cut them locally" is how mines lose 40% of their material to scrap and 5 days of production to fitting. JSLT Mining receives your DWG, STEP, or even a hand-marked photo and ships pre-cut, pre-drilled, pre-radiused liner panels that bolt up first time.

This guide explains what we need to quote a mining project, what custom features we routinely deliver, and what tolerances and certifications we provide for tier-1 mining clients in copper, iron ore, coal, and aggregate.
📑 In this article

1. Liner panel features we make to drawing

Every chute, hopper, or transfer point liner we ship has at least three of the following custom features. This is what separates a real liner supplier from a sheet trader:

  • Cut-to-shape outer profile — trapezoid, hexagon, curved, with cutouts for inspection hatches and pipework.
  • Pre-drilled bolt pattern — matches your existing chute frame; no on-site drilling.
  • Counterbore for flush bolts — mandatory on impact zones to prevent bolt-head wear.
  • Edge bevels — leading edges chamfered 30-45° to deflect material and prevent panel lifting.
  • Curved 3D-formed panels — we sinter and CNC-mill panels with 200-2000 mm radius for cyclones and curved chutes.
  • Sintered-in steel inserts — threaded studs molded into the panel for blind-bolt mounting (no through-holes leak fines).
  • Wear-indicator color stripes — colored UHMWPE laminated 10 mm below surface; appears when liner is due to replace.
  • Asset tag laser engraving — chute ID, panel position, install date.

2. The 5-data-point quote checklist

Send these 5 things and your quote arrives within one business day:

  1. Drawing of one panel (DWG/PDF/photo) with overall dimensions and bolt pattern.
  2. Quantity per panel type and total panels per chute.
  3. Material handled and average particle size (e.g. "copper concentrate, 80% <100 μm, 200 t/h, 25° chute angle").
  4. Operating temperature at the chute (we've seen 80 °C in some smelters — affects PE selection).
  5. Replacement timeline — lead time we have to hit.

Optional but valuable: photo of the existing worn liners (tells us wear pattern and intensity), and your 3D model of the chute interior (lets us optimize panel splits for minimum scrap).

3. Standard panel formats and replacement intervals

For greenfield projects without an existing reference, we suggest these as starting panel sizes — they balance manufacturing cost, shipping, and on-site handling:

4. Bolt patterns and fixing methods we routinely fabricate

Three fixing methods cover 95% of installations — we machine for any of them:

  • Through-bolts with counterbore. Most common. Pad has І24 mm hole + counterbore І40×28 mm. M20 grade 8.8 plated bolts, with steel backing washer and nylock nut on chute outside.
  • Sintered-in studs. M16 or M20 threaded steel studs molded into the back face. Blind installation — nothing penetrates the wear face. Premium price, eliminates fines leakage. Lead time +5 days.
  • Tee-bolt + welded steel keeper. Steel keeper bars welded to chute, panels slide in and lock. No bolts through the wear face. Most popular in iron ore. We supply matching panels with side notches.

5. Curved 3D-formed panels — our specialty

Off-the-shelf flat liners cannot follow a cyclone, hydrocyclone overflow elbow, or a curved transfer chute. Our 800-ton press has dedicated curved-platen tooling that produces sintered curved panels with:

  • Inner radius 200-2000 mm
  • Up to 1500×1000 mm developed area
  • Thickness 15-50 mm
  • Same material density and abrasion resistance as flat sheet

Curved panels add 25-40% on flat-equivalent price but eliminate the cost and risk of bonding flat segments. Send your 3D model (STEP) and we'll quote in 2 days.

6. Case studies (anonymized)

Peruvian copper concentrator, 2024. Replaced steel chute liner with 25 mm PE1000 cut-to-shape panels with countersunk bolts. Liner life: steel 14 months → UHMWPE 5+ years (still in service). Material handling team reported 8 dB noise reduction.

Indonesian coal terminal, 2025. 30 mm PE1000 panels, sintered-in studs, 600 m² of liner across 8 transfer points. Installed in one 36-hour outage. No fines leakage, vs 3% loss with previous steel-bolt design.

Australian iron ore truck dump pocket, 2025. 75 mm PE9000 panels with leading-edge bevels and laminated wear-indicator stripes. Replaces Hardox steel: lighter (1/8 weight), no maintenance welding, 18-month service life vs 8 months for Hardox.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

❓ Can you laminate steel-backed panels?

Yes — we bond UHMWPE to steel backing plates with mechanical fasteners (no adhesive). Combines steel structural strength with UHMWPE wear face.

❓ What is the maximum panel thickness?

200 mm sintered. Beyond that we laminate two panels with through-bolts. Most mining liners are 15-50 mm.

❓ Do you supply with installation hardware?

Yes — stainless steel or galvanized bolt kits supplied to match the panel hole pattern. Specify on PO.

❓ Can panels be hot-curved on site?

No — UHMWPE cannot be heat-formed in the field. Curved panels must be sintered to shape at our factory.

❓ Will UHMWPE handle 80°C operating temperature?

PE1000 working temperature is up to 80°C continuous, 100°C peak. Above that, switch to PA6 (Nylon) or PEEK liner.

❓ Lead time for a replacement set of 50 panels?

Standard: 18-22 days. Express: 12-15 days (15% surcharge).

❓ Do you have ISO 9001 / DNV / other certifications?

ISO 9001 yes. DNV available on request. Mining-specific MSHA approval for the panel material on file.
